Why 4 out of 10 quotes go unanswered (and what to do about it)

An unanswered quote is almost never a refusal. It's an oversight. Three well-timed follow-ups change the sign rate.

Silence after a quote easily reads as a refusal. In reality, the client opened the email, thought they'd reply in the evening, and forgot. The quote is still alive, it just needs a reminder.

The right follow-up rhythm

  • Day 3: a short message to check the quote arrived safely
  • Day 7: we offer to discuss it verbally for five minutes
  • Day 14: final follow-up, we announce we're closing the file due to no response

Beyond three follow-ups, returns plummet and persistence damages the relationship. Better to close cleanly: a client who said no today might return in six months.

What really makes the difference

The first craftsman to reply wins the job in most cases. Responsiveness outweighs the price difference on small amounts.
